Every 15 seconds in the United States, a woman is beaten, usually by her male partner.
Every year, domestic violence causes approximately 100,000 days of hospitalization, 28,700 emergency department visits, and 39,900 physician visits.   This violence costs the nation between 5 and 10 billion dollars per year.
More than 50% of all women will experience some form of violence from their spouses during marriage.  More than one-third are battered repeatedly every year.
Analysis of murder victim's relationships with their perpetrators shows that a spouse, romantic partner, or lover murdered more than three in ten of all female victims, and one in ten male victims.
